Stages) 1. Yama’s – Restraints or Abstinences ahimsa – nonviolence satya – Truth asteya – nonstealing brahmacharya – moderation aparigraha – non coveting or greed 2. Niyama’s – Rules of Conduct or Observances saucha – purity (in word and thought, cleanliness) santosa – contentment, cultivating happiness tapas-austerity; discipline, zeal for practice svadhyaya- self study Isvara – dedication to God or humanity 3. Asana - postures 4. Pranayama – control of breath or life force energy 5. Pratyahara – voluntary sense withdrawal 6. Dharana - concentration 7. Dyana - meditation 8. Samadhi – bliss, self realization, super conscious state
